Edward Bernay's Machine

Edward Bernays is the guy who made lying "respectable".

The drawing below was inspired by this film in YouTube

"How to Control What People Do"

This is an animated summary video of the book Propaganda written by Edward Bernays. He was Sigmund Freud's nephew and successfully applied many of the psychological principles for mass persuasion.  He is seen by many as the father of public relations.

"Public Relations" is just another word for Lies.

After watching the short video (8:30), can you see the same machine doing the same work in the present time?

The same technique, lies and the Media, lies and Media, over, and over again.

These people are a one pony show.

Shouldn't we all be talking about it?

Sincerely,

Bob

BTW, the drawing is one frame from a new story from Ms Little I am presently drawing.  I just thought this drawing deserved it's own space.

  1. Yes, agree the drawing deserves it's own space, great drawing!

Yes the tactic seems to be: repeat it over and over again, then people will be lie ve the lie... Another tactic seems to be: believe in your own lies, then it's easier to convince somebody. I think everyone has an inner sensor, or what some call: 'the bullshitmeter', we not always listen to it, but we should listen more to our inner guidance. And I also think we shouldn't argue with politicians or even discuss much their policies, their standpoints because then you'll give some of your power away by not giving your energy to positive things like self healing & nurturing, doing garden work, listening to music, making music, dance, producing art, being creative, being social, laugh. So personally I'm really tired of listening to all the talk of politicians (my bullshitmeter is all the time in the red zone.....) But I do think your cartoon can help people to question some of their beliefs, like: "It's in the news(papers), so it has to be true." "Most of the politicians are honest, hardworking people, in service of the people...". "The biggest wish of the pharmaceutical industry is making you healthy again..." Well, I'm sure you can think of more of those kind of statements. Sincerely, Dennis
